Bet Awards Fashion Review Shaakira White June 28, 2016 Fashion 796 Tweet Share Share Email WhatsAppShares 0Sunday night, many of us tuned in our television sets to the one award show hosted by African American people, for African American people. I must say, my expectations for the show itself were low due to past years but I was proven wrong throughout the duration of the show. Beyonce performed, (shocker: since she hasn’t stopped by a BET award show in years), Jesse Williams gave a riveting speech about many things that people won’t take a stand for publicly, and Jennifer Hudson had me wondering if I was in church or at a Prince concert during her tribute. But enough about that, let’s get into the fashion from this year’s white carpet. Below are a few of this 2016’s heavy weights and my thoughts on their fashion choices. Let me know what your favorite look was by using the hashtag, #FRLMAGFashion. Stay Stylish! Although she wasn’t on the white carpet, you all know how much I love Taraji so it was only right that I included her. Ms. Henson sported a daring look in a black strapless bodysuit and skirt from Steven Khalil’s 2017 resort collection. Although Instagram went meme crazy, comparing her look with a cracked phone screen; She wasted no time responding with, “YASS cause that is what DIAMONDS do! They CRACK GLASS!! Have a lovely day.” Enough said. Gabrielle Union gave me motherland teas in this African inspired dress. The high split really shows off how great her body is and the natural do just gives the entire image an effortless look. Tinashe came scantily clad in this lace number. In efforts to be nice, we’ll leave it at that. Alicia Keys has recently took to a more natural representation of herself. She’s stopped wearing makeup and I must say, her skin is flawless. As for the ensemble however, I’ll give her an A for effort. The jumpsuit has excess fabric that doesn’t accentuate her figure and the turban… not really feeling it. Janelle Monae serving us prison realness in this black and white striped number. On anyone else, this look would not have gone down well but Janelle did a spectacular job pulling this off. Tracy Ellis Ross, who was one of the evening’s hosts walked the carpet in an ankle length snake skin dress. Tracy can do no wrong in my book so I was definitely loving this ensemble on her. She’s never afraid to take risks, much like her mother. You go Glen Coco!
