For lack of a better term, it was good week to be Mac Miller.

The kid from Pittsburgh has been all over the media due to his recently confirmed relationship with pop icon, Ariana Grande. The two have had a natural friendship ever since Mac Miller featured in Ariana’s hit song, “The Way.” But, almost like clockwork, the confirmation came just in time for Miller’s new album, The Divine Feminine.

This 10-song saga shows off a much softer side of Mac Miller with features from Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign, CeeLo Green, Bilal, Njomza, and of course Ariana Grande. Although Ariana only appears in one song, her presence is felt throughout the album. Miller’s vocals are put to the test as he trades some of his rapping skills for a subtle R&B element. Displayed in songs like “Stay” and “Skin.”

Miller is most known for his music in the hip hop genre. Which raises the question, how will his fans view the album? With less hard rhymes and more vocals, some people may think this is a risk for the 24 year old. But, Mac Miller’s stock has been on the rise in recent years. Ever since Miller signed with Warner Bros. Records, in 2014, he has displayed a creative edge with his new big money contract. If there was ever a time to take a risk, now would be that time.

We’ll have to wait and see how the public digests this new product. So far the results are positive based on the recent popularity of Miller’s singles also included in the album. These are comprised of the songs “Dang!,” “We,” and “My Favorite Part” featuring Ariana Grande. I believe Miller’s new tricks will pay off. With his new relationship starting, The Divine Feminine might just be the perfect ending to Mac Miller’s strong year.
