Born in Newark, NJ, Ebony Ohen is a blossoming model, artist, and freelance graphic designer. From a young age, Ohen was always passionate about art and how it made her soul glow. Though her confidence in her craft wavered, she still emerged through her obstacles and continues to grow in her artistry. Currently, Ohen resides in Prairie View, TX, where she attends PVAMU and works as a Graphic Design Assistant.
As if being a triple threat was not enough, Ohen is also an entrepreneur. She is currently the CEO of Section|13 Clothing, where they currently sell “Melanalien” hats in assorted colors.
With strong ambition, work ethic, and dedication, there’s no doubt Ebony Ohen will do anything other than glow and grow.

Q: Thank you so much for wanting to be a part of Freelancer Magazine, we really appreciate it!

A: The pleasure is truly all mine! Thank you so much for the opportunity!

Q: Where are you from/Where do you currently reside?

A: I was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Dallas, TX. I currently reside in Prairie View, TX.

Q: What is your current occupation?

A: I work in my university’s Department of Marketing, Communications, and iT for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences as a graphic design assistant. I’m also a freelance graphic designer and entrepreneur

Q: How long has art been a part of your life?

A: Art has always been a part of my life. It has always been something that made my soul glow whether I’m creating or admiring a creation. As a young girl I never had the confidence to consider myself an artist because at the time I thought it was about having a certain skill/style that I did not possess as opposed to an expression of self.

Q: Why style of art do you typically handle?

A: I typically implement an array of abstract art, illustration, afro-futurism, and retro pop art in my creations

Q: When did you decide to infuse your art skills into graphic designing?

A: I first began dabbling with graphic designing when I was 12 and desired to have a poppin’ MySpace page. I fell off from it as MySpace died down and picked it back up at PVAMU when I added a minor in Digital Media Arts in fall 2015.

Q: What was the most challenging part about learning graphic design?

A: For me personally, breaking out of perfectionism and just experimenting.

Q: Tell us a little bit about the graphic design work you do for your university?

A: I make branding and marketing material for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences. So if there’s a researcher hosting an event then I’ll be creating the flyer or filling in an old template. Like right now I’m working on a brochure for safe home gardening for teenagers.

Q: How do you balance/remain focused with school, along with your brand, modeling and the work you do for your school?

A: It’s not easy. It’s a blessing if I’m able to get more than 5 hours of sleep at night. But I love everything I do and I know God is preparing me for a much bigger and busier role. So I lean on the gospel my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to give me strength and peace of mind each day.

Q: If you could describe your personality in three words, what would they be?

A: Individual, conscious, carefree

Q: When did your modeling career begin?

A: Not too long ago, I had my first photoshoot in the summer of 2015.

Q: What type(s) of modeling do you do?

A: Mainly fashion photography

Q: What is one of the best photoshoots you have done?

A: One of my favorite shoots is a spontaneous shoot I did with my personal photographer, Christopher Light, in the back of the Allen Outlets after buying the cutest pink hoodie Nautica wearing a Tyler the Creator Cherry Bomb mask.

Q: Where do you see your modeling career in the next 5-10 years?

A: I see myself with a few magazine covers under my belt and a display in Times Square NYC.

Q: What is your overall goal/purpose for your life?

A: My overall goal is to find/become my Personal Legend and using my testimony to help others discover theirs.

Q: What can we expect from you in 2017?

A: Immense gl0w.
