When she’s not expressing her inner thoughts on paper or capturing the spur of the moment with her camera, 21-year-old model Jasmine Rutledge is gracing the runways for designers like Oscar De La Renta and Roberto Cavalli.

Discovered at the age of 16 while visiting Miami Beach, Jasmine had the hopes of being signed to NEXT model management. The 21-year-old model made it her top priority to make her dream come true and with a little hope and determination, her mission was accomplished, she was offered a contract on site!

Continuing to work hard and make a reputable name for herself, Jasmine has done print work for brands like Nike and Urban Outfitters. Nevertheless, she enjoys expressing herself creatively in many ways

“I’m currently obsessed with Pinterest lol. I also love to write, photography, hanging out with my friends, going to museums. Anything to keep me being creative.”

Get to know Jasmine in our extended interview below as she talks about how she was discovered and what her goals are as a model.

Q: Where did it all start for you? How were you discovered as a model?

I was 16 at the time, and my whole family and I took a trip to Miami Beach, FL to see if I could get signed with an agency. I went to NEXT, had a meeting with them, and immediately got a contract right on the spot! Very rare occurrence, but I’m so lucky it all happened the way it did.

Q: How did you feel when you booked your first job?

I felt so shocked, yet excited. My mom was getting all of my emails, and she got an email that I confirmed my first job, comes into my bedroom screaming, “YOU BOOKED IT!” And I was bug eyed and had a big smile on my face.

Q: Body image is extremely important when it comes to modeling, how do you cope under the pressures of being a model?

I just have to be true to myself always, and try not to compare myself to others. It’s hard especially in this industry, but I just remind myself that I’m special and beautiful in my own unique way just as everyone else is.

Q: How do you mentally and physically prepare yourself for a casting?

I don’t really do anything mentally before a casting, haha. I usually just myself and always hope for the best. Physically though, I work out every weekday morning!

Q: Have you reached your defining moment in your career, a moment where you felt as if you’ve officially made it?

Yes actually! I have always wanted to live in NYC ever since I was younger, and this year I have lived here for a year! It’s cool that my dream came true.

Q: When you’re not modeling what do you do on your downtime?

I’m currently obsessed with Pinterest lol. I also love to write, photography, hanging out with my friends, going to museums. Anything to keep me being creative.

Q:  You recently walked in The Blonds SS17 show during New York Fashion Week, what was that like?

The Blonds was absolutely insane. I wore a huge blonde curly wig, contour for days, long sharp nails, the whole nine yards. It was so fierce. The energy was electric, everyone was so sassy, it was fantastic!

Q: What was it like working in Cape Town, South Africa?

The best! I always tell people that if you have an opportunity to travel to Cape Town please do!! Everything about that place is magical. The mountains are incredible, the beaches are great, food is good. I can brag about Cape Town all day long, haha.

Q: What is a chill day for Jasmine Rutledge.

Just my pen, journal, and a camera. Going through NYC making up stories of the people I come across.

Q: I know that music and fashion go hand in hand, so who are some of the artist you’re listening to right now, what’s the top 3 songs on your playlist?

Right now I’m obsessed with Childish Gambino’s new album, “Awaken, My Love!” It’s so good, I can’t stop listening to it. Also getting more into deep house and 21 Savage (lol).

Q: Ultimately, what are your goals as a model? Do have plans to venture off into other things?

My goals as a model is to become a person for girls to look up to. I want to be the voice to the girls who are like me and show them that they too can be great. As of right now I am focusing on my career while doing creative things such as photography and writing on my down time to practice my skills. I one day will want to be a film maker/screen writer.

Q: Who are some of your favorite designers?

I love love love Stella McCartney and Alexander Wang.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish in 2017?

QQ: IF I WASN’T A MODEL I’D BE A: More than likely a writer or photographer.

QQ: PRINT OR RUNWAY: Both. Print is fun, but runway is a big ball of adrenaline!

QQ: I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: Music. I would go crazy without music.

QQ: MY FAVORITE MODEL IS: Naomi Campbell hands down. That woman is a goddess!

QQ: MY DREAM JOBS: VS and SI (Sports Illustrated)
