Since 2013 Rich the Kid has been a buzz maker in Atlanta. His street hit “Trap” featuring Migos and produced by Zaytoven has sent him on a war path to get his name in the mainstream talk. The last couple years Rich has been comfortably riding the new wave along with the heavy influx of young Atlanta rappers. I previously did not agree with this reinvention of his music because in my eyes the “trap” Rich was perfect but being an East Atlanta native I’m highly biased. Nonetheless I was convinced that this was good for Rich although I wasn’t a fan of “new wave” Rich, and then he dropped Rich Forever 2. That was the turning point for me because his “new wave” sound improved and he even made Famous Dex a better rapper. That’s just the “elevation way” over at Rich Forever Music.

Besides reinventing his sound Rich also managed to open his own record label Rich Forever Music and has signed Famous Dex and rising Atlanta star ThouxanbanFauni. All three are set to take over the game soon, especially with the heavy collaboration that is in motion. You can get a sneak peek of the trio in action on the Fauni’s remix of “Gorgeous.”

On the 17th Rich the Kid gave us The Rich Forever Way. The 8 track tape contains songs from himself, Famous Dex, and Jay Critch. The only actual feature is Madeintyo on the remix to “New Wave.” Production comes from Lab Cook, Richie Souf, OG Parker, Retro Sushi, TM88 and Wheezy Beats.

Throughout the tape Rich, Dex and Jay trade bars calling out fakers and imitators. As per usual they the flex on everyone “the Rich Forever Way.” The song “In My Coupe” is a perfect example. Dex starts the hook with, “I just pulled up in my coupe/ I might just f*ck on your boo/ Look at my hunnids they blue, ohh/ I f*cked your b*tch after school.” This format of rapping between them is truly amazing because the chemistry is very strong. Jay Critch kinda came out of nowhere to me but I’m glad they included him. He makes the tape just as much as Rich and Dex do.

The Madentyo assisted remix to “New Wave” is definitely my favorite song on the tape. It’s 100% truth. I listen to new music all day, every day and I cannot count how many artists sound like Rich, Dex, and Madeintyo among a few others. Now I didn’t initially like Dex but I could never doubt his trend setting ability. Dex took the country by storm with “Drip From My Walk” and his following mixtapes. He and Rich are the 2nd best duo of “new wave” artists, only behind Lil Pump and Smokepurrp. They flow together naturally like twins, if you didn’t know both of their pasts you might think they just started up together.

According to Dex Rich Forever 3 is on the way and I’m very excited. I will be screaming “Dexter” at random times in preparation, as should you. Overall The Rich Forever Way gets an 8/10 from me but the tape can be streamed from SoundCloud so you can judge for yourselves.
