Now, the once drab combination is totally fashionable and can even be worn as a stylish outfit for a night out. Fashion icons have fully embraced this trend that has grown over the years. This trend is following with the increasing popularity of athleisure clothing. Athleisure has been competing with day wear clothing and now it is even gaining tract against evening wear. “Statement Sweats” is the name that has been given to the fashionable yet casual clothing. They first appeared on runways two years ago and are still present in recent shows. Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma line is just one example of how sweats have become more prevalent as a part of higher fashion. Riri’s line consists of various sweat pants, cropped hoodies, hoodie dresses, zip ups, and whatever else you could name. The price point of this line nears the $1000 mark, way more than your average pair of PINK sweats. Obviosuly since Riri’s clothing line fully embraces the trend of fashionable sweats she would be seen rocking the trend herself. The singer and actress is seen here wearing an all black outfit consisting of an oversized hoodie that she wore as a dress, and booties. RiRi added a colorful flair to the outfit with her purple lipstick. Hoodie dresses are just one way that sweats have become more stylish. Cropped hoodies are another garment that has helped hoodies and sweatpants have become more prevalent on the fashion scene. Here is young style icon Zendaya who dressed up a cropped hoodie by pairing it with a body con skirt. The singer and actress still kept the look more casual and appropriate for daytime wear by pairing it with adidas high tops and by throwing her hair up in a messy bun. Zendaya’s clothing line also features what are now known as statement sweats. She dresses up a sweatsuit from her own clothing line, Daya by Zendaya for its launch back in November. The black sweatsuit has graphic Z’s on the right leg and arm and a Z over the heart of the cropped sweatshirt. Zendaya paired the sweatsuit with a pendant necklace and sky-high black heeled booties that are also from her line. Paired with her natural makeup and slicked back hair the look is undoubtedly effortless and chic. Fashion Nova is one retailer where fashionistas can find fashionable sweats such such as the matching distressed fitted set that Rachel Stoves is wearing. Rachel paired the olive green set with brown ankle booties from the UK retailer Ego. By pairing these two together Rachel created a cool earth tone outfit and showed us how she makes sweats chic.
