Its sickening that everyday I wake up a black man has been a victim of police brutality. My heart is heavy as I type this brief introduction to my poem.  This poem was written over a year ago while I sat outside my sister’s apartment overlooking the Hudson River. I had writers block for a couple of days and something told me to take a breather, and write somewhere peaceful. When my pen touched my notebook The Black Man in America poem was born.

The Black Man in America
The land of the free
The black man in America
The land of defeat

Don’t talk back
You don’t have any rights
Don’t you see nigger
You won’t win this fight
I’m white so I’m right
Follow me,
I’m your guiding light
Don’t get too smart though
Because then we’ll have a problem
I’m quick with the trigger finger
And that’s how I’ll solve them
Fuck your feelings
I don’t care if they’ll miss you
I’ll get off scotch free
Here, give your mom some tissues
I’ll do the same to your auntie,
Your kid, to you all!
FUCK BLACK LIVES MATTER
I want to see you all fall
At the end of the day
I’ll get up and stand tall
I’ll put on my badge
That says to protect and serve all.

The black man in America
The land of the free
The black man in America
The land of defeat
